OBTAINING A PUPPY FROM EVANLAKE CAVALIERS
Evanlake Cavaliers is only listed on three web sites,
The American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club (www.ackcsc.org),
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club USA, Inc. (www.ckcsc.org)
and the “Cavalier Info Site” (www.PremierCavalierInfoSite.com).
We do not advertise heavily but are listed in our affiliated Club’s
Yearbooks.
Since we take great care in health testing our breeding
dogs and choosing appropriate stud dogs who are also tested, the number of
litters we breed on a yearly basis is limited to two or three. We take
an equal amount of care in choosing homes for the puppies. As
mentioned before, all puppies are temperament tested at seven weeks of age
and have a structure evaluation at 8 weeks to provide us with information as
to which puppies we may want to keep for breeding and Pet Therapy and which
we will place with families. All puppies are a minimum of 12 weeks old
before they leave. Do not be surprised if we do not let you “pick”
your puppy. Most breeders are very skilled in matching the puppy to
the family, as this the most important part of our job!
You may contact us by email or phone (see contact
information). We will do our best to answer all your questions
thoroughly. This is a big decision and you should have as many
questions for me as I have for you! Whether I have puppies available
or not, if you wish to obtain a puppy from Evanlake Cavaliers, you must come
for a personal visit with all the family members who will come in contact
with the puppy on a daily basis. I will not ship a puppy, you must
come to my home and pick it up. After the initial visit, you
will be given a two page questionnaire to take home, complete at your
leisure and return. This questionnaire then becomes my “waiting list”.
It asks questions I may forget during the interview and also provides me
with information I may later need to complete Registration paperwork.
I do not take deposits and do not promise puppies in the order people
visited. My goal is to have an adoption that is successful for
everyone, the family, the dog and me!
All puppies are “dual registered”, which means they are
registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC) and The Cavalier King Charles
Spaniel Club USA, Inc. All puppies are sold on “Restricted
Registrations” which means you cannot use the dog for breeding. You
must sign a contract agreeing to this. You must also agree to return
the puppy to the Breeder if you cannot keep it at any point in its lifetime.
These two items are non-negotiable. Anyone wishing to see a generic
copy of the contract may request one by email.
As the breeder, I will be available to answer questions
for the remainder of the life of your dog, and help you in any way I can to
have an enjoyable life with your puppy.
